DIMEND - Die To Feel Alive (Review)

In July of this year, band Dimend was created. So far there is nothing here - nor
a promotional photo, nor a permanent line-up, but there is one single about which I will tell you now.

My Rating: 67/100

New bands are unpredictable. You usually don't expect much from a new projects - you are often satisfied when everything is simply done well. But you can quickly understand what a new band is. And this case is no exception - here you can hear professional work. I mean both the recording quality and some shades in composer's work. In the compositions you can hear patterns that are typical for death metal. Sound is quite powerful and it causes strong emotions. But here everything is within the standard patterns.

Shades in composer's work testify in favor of professional level. However, composer's work is not impressive. Composer decided to just do a good job without show-off’s. Here is a bet on the overall structure and emotions. However, in this release, three tracks and all of them are different - this is a nice detail. It is noticeable that these are not just three different combinations of patterns, they are three separate ideas. Moreover, the realization of ideas is steady - there is no super-powerful first track with a frank quickie at the end or the middle. Yes, composer will have to work on his style for a long time, but here the prospects are definitely good.

Vocalist is good - voice is very strong. Extreme vocal techniques sounds too clear for such a style - this indicates a not quite correct voice recording. However, there is a minimum of voice processing here - vocalist is not afraid to show his abilities. You can also notice pretty honest lyrics.

Instrumental parts - everything is predictable here. But if we talk about guitar, then it's difficult to notice something special. I don't know whether you will understand me or not, but this release is made quite simple. From the first listening, I instantly understood how it's played on a guitar - I had this only with band Moth In Lilac. And only the melodic guitar in second track somehow dilutes the standard ideas. But there is something interesting here. This is a very powerful rhythm section. Bassist terribly pokes the strings as if he wants to break them. For this reason, the upper part of tone is well heard. And drummer is a real joy to ears. I think it would be superfluous to remind you what “death metal drummer” means. And here you can hear too much evidence of this. The main part of impression is created by a very powerful drum patterns.

I did not manage to discuss this release in detail. Because here it's very difficult to find any interesting ideas. But overall, the work is good. For the first single, this is a good result.
