Band ZYOLAM13 exists quite a large (for modern bands) amount of time. And for this time they have already managed to release a good and interesting album. Accordingly, from such a band, you already expect something interesting, something that very sharply distinguishes from the background of the others. Not necessarily something super complicated or experimental - just a job that is done well, with all the attendant shades of good work.
My Rating: 58/100
But in this album you will not hear good work. Here you can hear something similar to a kind of power pop (2 track), post-punk with pop music influence and a slight hint of shoegazing sounding (3 tracks) and something similar to D-Beat (1, 4 tracks). 4 different tracks on 1 release is initially a good idea. But I get the impression that everything that was in composer's head (and the ideas don't differ in originality) - all this was dropped on a sheet music. This is the same as pulling everything out of fridge, put it in a pan and turn on the stove. Well, I know a lot of examples, when such ideas are well polished by sound designer. But here you can see very standard ideas of sound designer.
Vocalist tries to portray diversity. Somewhere the voice is emotional, somewhere - moderate, quiet. But it turns out somehow rather weakly. Yes, vocalist knows how to do it right, but some shades of performance spoil the impression. However, it's worth noting some successful decisions of composer regarding the vocal parts.
Instrumental parts are quite simple. Clean on 2nd track is all you need to know about the variety of instrumental parts. Nevertheless, there is still something to note here. A large number of squeaks and scrapes in 1st track is one of the signs of a bad guitarist. Yes, it can be assumed that in this way composer wanted to show great enthusiasm for work, due to which little attention is paid to accuracy. But it's unpleasant to listen. Segments on clean in the 2nd track - why? And thus a rather long duration of the track. Gradual buildup of composition? This can be expressed by other means. And I consider the discussion of instrumental parts from the 3rd track meaningless. And only in tracks 1 and 4 you can hear something more interesting, but it's mostly the work of a drummer.
This release excellently shows only one thing: how good prospects are lost in the pursuit of a non-existent ideal. Initially, this band had great prospects, but something went wrong. First album showed that these are talented guys with big ambitions. Here we hear some violent mosh of many ideas. Well, maybe this is development, the search for oneself. But for the time being I don't see anything new.
