Kana Enji - Wasurenagusa (Review)

When a new band appears on stage, you can immediately determine what they are. People are different, they think differently, see different shades, can solve different tasks, can correct various shortcomings, can provide mutual control. But emergence of a new solo artist is always an unpredictable event.

My Rating: 64/100

In Russia there is a set expression "Alone in battlefield is not a warrior." One person does not always have a lot of knowledge, is not always able to see a large number of shades, can not always notice their shortcomings. And if there is always a person in the group who points out the mistake, then the one has to be difficult. That is, to a solo artist to be popular or at least a little interesting, they need to be not just a Jack of all trades.

Why did I start to argue in this direction? Because the release, which I want to talk about, is pretty one-sided. Yes, this is a pretty good beginner. Yes, the overall structure looks cool. Yes, we hear an excellent vocalist and an interesting lyrics. But everything else looks like a plastic toy. It's also noticeable that different people worked on vocal and instrumental parts. Yes, it's written on the booklet. But I mean that they don't fit very well. This is especially noticeable in first track: a high voice with a rather complex fantasy lyric, and instrumental - as if playing patterns in the style of band Caliban, but on a standard E guitar tuning. At the audition beginning, I did not understand what was happening. Nevertheless, in second track is already noticeably more interesting combination.

Now specifically about the voice. Here the standard vocal parts structure - lovers of something unusual will not find anything here. Yes, there are insertions of screaming in second track. But in general, nothing unusual. Nevertheless, it's worth noting that the vocalist has excellent abilities.

Instrumental parts are not particularly distinguished. And sometimes they look a bit strange. For example, first track is similar to some metalcore, but performed on standard tuning. And only in second track you can hear a more familiar combination of high voice, power chord, as well as blast beat, scank beat and boot camp beat. But still there is a feeling that the parts were composed quickly. But still it seems that they were not developed from the beginning, but just a few standard patterns were compiled.

Here we see the beginning of a career quite a good solo artist. There is noticeable a great talent, but the ideas implementation is poor. I can say that the project looks quite interesting and promising. And it will necessarily be so, if more complex methods of solving artistic tasks are applied.
